Characters are kind of clearly dimwitted and this kinda stuff would never happen in real life, but with so many games that take forever to get through complex choices and dialogue, sometimes it's nice to have something quick and straightforward. Choices matter just enough to be engaging and make it feel at least mildly real without being overwhelming. Feel of the game is that the character constantly feels ashamed for her actions.
